Well it's an either/or suggestion:

The ships were renowned for speed, so both options are the fastest ships.

1) They had extremely shallow draft and were relatively light, so they could be sailed into unnavigable rivers and beached on coasts that did not have a harbor. So maybe in the game, they could be ported 1 space at a time over ground.

2) Viking sea war was very different than Greek. The Greeks liked to "smash 'em up" warfare, while the Vikings preferred to kill the crew and save the ship and onboard valuables. So in the game they can transport a unit and whichever is inside it is its attack. There should also be a chance to capture the ship.

What do you think? :)

I like both.

my suggesgion for 2: what about if the ship has a small ranged attack and a skill:rigging (names are not my best...)
the ranged attack would ve tge thrown javelins and axes from the crew, and the rigging would have a chance to convert the ship.
units can attack out from it.
if the ship or a unit inside it attack another ship they woll damage it's carried units. and if it don't have units inside then the ship.
