New structure - dam

Post by ollie444 » Sun Oct 05, 2014 12:02 pm

Dams are quite simple really-
Act like a bridge for land units, but like a wall for sea units. Can only be built on ocean tiles. Can hold 1 unit only. Workers can build from it too.

Why? Because I think sea units are too powerful ATM, and this would also allow defence from the water as well as land.

Info:
Turns: 4-5?
Strength: wall strength?
Can hold: 1 unit
Built by: Worker

Doesn't heal units on it to prevent turtling

Should you need technology for this???

Coding: Easy-ish. With walls you make "ground" tiles into "hill" tiles, and with this your making water tiles into "ground" tiles. Should be unable to build barracks etc, but should be able to build towers. Tower idea from a reply.

Please reply if you like/dislike my idea or want to change it/ add to it.

And finally, a joke...
What did the fish say when he hit a wall?

Dam!

hehehehehehehe...

Anyways, I made image. It is a lot like wall, but I thought that would be best for simplicity.

The idea is very good. The joke is kinda bad taste. :)
I see your point, esp. if sea units get upgrades.
Would we be able to build on them, like towers?
Thanks!

I love the idea. Its really great! I think you should need a tech to get it though. As it is a pretty powerful building :)

I am glad to hear you. :)
However such a structure (to my imagining) would not be able to be walked on.
But maybe I will see what I can do. :)
Thanks!

Ok!
The answer is yes. :)

Romans in especial; Muslim empire not so much. And also began heavily to build in the Netherlands.

Couldn't you just allow walls to be built on water - you could build them along a line of bridges for a walk-able dam.

Walkable dams might be op though, as it represents both a bridge and a wall. Maybe split it into two structures.

Also I can see dams for rivers, but dams for the open sea/ocean? We can't even do that in 2015 lol

They were called moles. Like for Alexander the Great vs Tyre.

i just read the story (battle of Tyre). and it's pretty epic :O

would be nice if this battle can be added to the historical battle section,
are there currently maps in AOS where you need to conquer a stronghold on an Island?

It is a great battle. Idk right now what the requirements are for submitting a Historical map.
There is the Pirate Map in the Fan Maps.
Thanks!
