Automatic crossbow.

The ancient Chinese invented an automatic crossbow. It had a clip of 10 fletching-less arrows and was inaccurate, usually used against masses of men and horses.

I like him archers are my unit of choice anyway, but could be used to finish of two defenders when they have just that speck of red left, this is a very good idea I know I would use him )

lol, you mean range 8. A normal crossbow has range 6. A trebuchet has range of 10 and that is the longest range by far.

Actually 10/11 could make sense because the archers had bamboo tubes full of gunpowder that turned the arrows into rockets.

Is the Crossbow Archer only 6? That's only the range of a longbowman!

And I suggest it should be an upgrade of normal fire archer, +1 range, +2 attack, and a bit more hp. Better attack and range you can invent, too (Master archery lv1, 2)

I like the idea for it to be a fire archer upgrade.

Also, units like these are cool, they would add a lot to a nations gamemode if it is ever implemented. :)

Well that wouldn't make sense to have a normal unit upgrade to a national unit.

Hm, Idk. If it's a standalone unit, I don't see how it would be useful in a normal gamemode, unless we make it substantially better than a fire archer or an xbow maybe?

According to Wikipedia, these were just repeating crossbows and didn't use Chinese Fire Arrows https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeating_crossbow

Should we rethink this unit on that basis and open a new topic for a Chinese Fire Arrow unit?

1 question - will they gain blacksmith upgrades?
Also i think for 3 turns 6 range and 4 damage along with 2 shots is quite op if he is affected by blacksmith upgrades. Lower range by 1 if it is affected by blacksmith upgrades.

I think they shouldn't, if they did cost should b 4 to not make fire archers obsolete, and may b they have less bonus against ships compared to fire archers, currently stats r like slinger with higher range and burning weapons for one more turn cost,

Also i think that he can get archer armor (only) upgrades from blacksmith.
